An obituary with evidence—and errors: Thomas Dobesh, 1934

The Blue Valley Blade reported Thomas Dobesh's death on 9 April 1934 and his 13 April funeral and burial at St. Wenceslaus in Bee. The obituary also contains claims that conflict with earlier records.

Source says

The obituary reports that Thomas died at his home northwest of Bee on Monday, 9 April; that services and burial took place Friday, 13 April; and that burial was delayed for the arrival of his surviving brother Frank Dobesh from Long Beach.

We conclude

It is contemporary evidence reporting the death, funeral, burial, home area, and Frank's relationship as the surviving brother.

Still uncertain

Its “1893” marriage year conflicts with the 1910 census and family sheet, and its seven-child account omits a son present in those controls. Its misspelled birthplace statement, “Czechoslavakia,” is only the obituary's broad claim.

Why this record matters

The obituary preserves death, burial, residence, and sibling evidence. Comparison with the 1910 census and a privately held 1982 family sheet exposes discrepancies in its marriage year and child count.

Principal people and correlated identities on this page

  • Thomas Dobesh — decedentNamed directly in the source [1]This obituary directly records death on 9 April 1934. [1]
  • Frank Dobesh — surviving brother; supported cross-source identitySupported cross-source identity; not independently proved [1] [4]A derivative 1982 family sheet records Frank (born 19 October 1862 in Thomas's sibling group) as having died in 1943. The obituary-to-sheet identity is supported, not independently proved; no exact death date is claimed. [1] [4]

Every displayed person meets the documented-death rule or the conservative 120-year historical publication presumption; that presumption is not an identity conclusion or proof of death, and the record has been data-minimized.

Editorial note

The exact heading is THOMAS DOBESH; the body uses both Thomas Dobes and Thomas Dobesh. The 1910 census and junior 1982 family sheet serve as conflict controls. The senior 1982 sheet supports Frank's 1943 death year under a qualified identity link. No source image is published.
